In this study fatigue testing and defect assessment were carried out on specimens welded with robotic and manual welding using flux cored (FCAW) and metal cored (MCAW) filler materials in order to study the effect of the welding method on the fatigue strength and weld quality.
Fatigue assessment of cut edges in high strength steel – Influence of surface quality
The influence of surface roughness on the fatigue strength in high strength steels and different cutting processes are studied. Fatigue testing is conducted on S700 and S960 material for different plate thicknesses cut in dog bone specimens using oxygen, plasma, laser and waterjet cutting.

Weight optimization and fatigue design of a welded bogie beam structure in a construction equipment
A welded bogie beam in an articulated hauler has been designed, analyzed, produced and fatigue tested in order to demonstrate the features of the research project LOST (Lightweight Optimized welded STructures). The results from LOST, e.g. a new weld quality system, effect of using high strength steel and post treatment, were applied.
Welding procedures for fatigue life improvement of the weld toe
This paper presents the results of an experimental study of gas metal arc welded, GMAW, cruciform joints made of common construction steel S355. The hypothesis is that smooth undercuts in as welded conditions can give enhanced fatigue properties similarly as post treated welds. Undercuts are generally seen as a defect or imperfection.
